redeemed and forgiven

Colossians 1:13,14

For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

According to http://www.dictionary.reference.com redemption is the purchase back of something that had been lost, by the payment of a ransom.

I love this! Without Jesus we are ALL lost, but God purchased us back by giving His one and only Son as a ransom for our lives. Did He have to? Absolutely not. He did it because He loves us. He allowed His Son Jesus to die a horrific death on the cross, because it was the only way for us to have eternal life with Him. He wanted us that much!

In Christ we have the forgiveness of sins. We all fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We have all sinned against others and against God. Others may not be so quick to forgive us our failings, but God always will, when you approach Him with a sincere heart. It doesn’t matter what you or I have done, God will always forgive. Not only does He forgive, He wipes the slate clean! The sin is gone forever, giving us a chance to learn from our mistakes and start over.

If you are in a place where you believe that God will never forgive your sins, if you believe that your sins are to bad for God to forgive, you are buying into the lies of Satan. God has more love for you than you will ever be able to imagine. When you approach Him in repentance, He will listen. Your heavenly Father will wrap you in His comforting arms and welcome you home.

adopted

Ephesians 1:5

In love, he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.

According to the http://www.freedictionary.com the definition of predestined is to fix upon, decide or decree in advance. So, God in His love decided in advance that we were to be His adopted children. It was not a mistake. God did not wake up one day and say, “well, I guess I’ll adopt so and so.” He chose us to be His adopted children.

Usually, when a couple adopts a child, there really is no way to tell the extent of issues that child may have faced or will face due to the trauma in their lives. We have to be willing to take a chance and make a commitment to love that child regardless of what issues may come up down the road. God knows exactly what we have gone through, what sins we have committed, what mistakes we have made, what we will go through, and He chose to adopt us anyway! Nothing about us or our lives is a surprise to Him. He loves us that much!

He does require one thing from us though. We have to be willing to accept His son Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He made for us on the cross. We have to accept Jesus completely in order for our heavenly Father to adopt us. Let me put it another way, we need to accept the GIFT of Jesus in our lives to be adopted by God. There are no strings attached to receiving the gift of Jesus. It is a choice that we make on our own. It is a gift freely given, but we must accept Jesus into our hearts and our lives. God will never force Himself or Jesus on anyone.

The end of the verse says that it is His pleasure and His will that we be adopted children of the King. God does not want any of His children to suffer the consequences of not accepting Jesus. He loves us all and it is His will that WE ALL become His adopted children. Our Father does not want any of us to perish. It is up to us. The choice is ours to make.

I have accepted the gift of Jesus in my heart and my life. I know that I am the adopted daughter of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. I am a princess. I am comforted in my Daddy’s arms.

If you have been struggling with the decision to accept Jesus, I encourage you to open your heart today and become the adopted child of a loving and compassionate God. It is up to you. God is waiting with open arms for you. He decided even before you were born that He wanted to adopt you. Even though you are not perfect, God wants you to be His child!

If you need someone to guide you in taking the step of receiving Jesus in your heart and life, please contact me! I am here for you. I want you to know the love and mercy of my heavenly Father. You are in my prayers, dear friend, let me know how I can help.

God loves you and so do I!

God sees the real me

1 Samuel 16:6-7

6 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.”

7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

I am 43 years old and have lived the majority of my life uncomfortable in my skin. I have never thought that I was good enough. I have repeatedly told myself that I’m not pretty enough, I’m to fat, my hair isn’t right, my clothes aren’t good enough, the list goes on. I have done this to myself my entire life.

I am starting to process the truth of God. According to the passage in 1 Samuel, God looks at our heart. God does not care about our outward appearance, He cares about the condition of our heart. David was the youngest of the brothers and was a shepherd. He was not Samuel’s first choice for king. But, God knew David’s heart and he was God’s first choice for king.

It is always good to take care of our health and our “temple”, but most importantly we need to take care of our inner “man.”

Matthew 15:18

18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.

Keep your eyes focused on Jesus and the truth of who He says you are. Don’t believe the lies of Satan, who wants you to think that you are worthless. When you feel the lies of Satan piercing your heart:

1. Say a Prayer- Surrender those negative thoughts to God. God wants you to believe the truth of who you really are, but you have to choose to surrender the negative thoughts to Him.

2. Reject the Lies- Reject Satan’s lies. Don’t buy in to his negative thinking. He will deceive you any time that he can and he delights in your acceptance of his lies. Don’t give him this power!

3. Accept the Truth- The truth is that God LOVES you! He thinks that you are beautiful just as you are! He loves you so much that every hair on your head is numbered (Matthew 10:30). Nothing happens to you that He does not know about. Your outward appearance does not matter to him. What matters is the condition of your heart. I encourage you to do your own research on your identity in Christ. Let the Word sink into your heart. Remind yourself several times a day who God says you are. His opinion is the only one that matters!

None of us is gifted with a perfect body or outward appearance. No, not one of us! We all have things about us that we wish we could change. Remember, my friend, that it is okay to love yourself just as you are. Maybe you do need to lose a few pounds (I need to lose about 60 and it is a struggle). Maybe you can’t afford designer clothes or the fancy car (It doesn’t matter! I can’t either, but simplicity is a spiritual discipline that Jesus modeled for us). Okay, so do what you need to do to be healthy, but remember that God would love you just the same if you never changed one thing about yourself, ever. God loves you as you are! I can’t say this enough.

Repeat after me: THE GOD OF THE UNIVERSE LOVES ME JUST AS I AM!!! Keep repeating this until it sinks into the deep crevices of your heart.

Remember you can always contact me for prayer or encouragement. God loves you and so do I!

St. Nick

I really starting thinking about Saint Nicholas, when my son Ty, recently asked me if Santa Claus was real. Ty had just turned 12 the day before and I could tell that he really wanted the truth. I hesitated for a brief moment, not wanting to see my youngest child grow up, but decided to tell him the truth, which brought up the subject of Saint Nicholas.

Saint Nicholas was born around AD 270 in Patara, Lycia, in Asia Minor. He was born and raised by christian parents, who modeled for him lives surrendered to God.

Nicholas lived a life centered on Jesus. He cared for those in need and worked to bring justice in his sphere of influence. When Nicholas was a young man, his parents died, leaving him a wealthy young man. Instead of blowing the inheritance on himself, he chose to use the money to glorify God and help those in need. There are many legends of his generosity.

In AD 300, at the age of 30 he was made a Bishop in the town of Myra, in Asia Minor (the town is now known as Demre, Turkey). This was the time of persecution of the church and Bishop Nicholas, being an outspoken christian was tortured, arrested, and imprisoned with other Christians. He was eventually released when the christian Constantine came to power.

He was said to have been present in the council of Nicaea, in AD 325. He was said to have destroyed pagan temples, leaving evil spirits howling before him. Saint Nicholas was known for his generous heart and his unwavering support of those who were struggling with the injustice of the world.

Bishop Nicholas died in AD 343, but his legacy continues:

Saint Nicholas is the original Santa Claus. Saint Nicholas is known for sneaking coins into the shoes of children as they slept. To honor this gift giving Saint, December 6th has become Saint Nicholas day, to celebrate the day of his birth. Parents in many European countries still observe Saint Nicholas day, by placing small gifts, chocolates and other sweets in the shoes of their children on the eve of Saint Nicholas Day.

Over time, this tradition has evolved into the legend of Santa Claus and has become the focus of the Christmas season.

Santa Claus is about commercialism of the season. Saint Nicholas was all about Jesus and he would want our focus at this time of the year to be on Jesus and giving to those in need.

I shared the story of Saint Nicholas with Ty, along with the most important gift we have all been given, the gift of eternal life with God, when we receive the gift of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Jesus gave us the most important gift we will ever be given: His life. It is all about Jesus and that is the way Saint Nicholas would have wanted it.

In this Christmas season, remember Jesus and make that decision to accept Him into your heart. I am here to walk you through this most important decision you will ever make.

I obtained the information on Saint Nicholas from http://www.stnicholascenter.org.

george mueller

George Mueller was an amazing man of God, prayer and faith. It has been 115 years since his death and his life is still used as an example of true christian living. The book “George Mueller Of Bristol And His Witness To A Prayer-Hearing God” written by Arthur T. Pierson, is a must read for every christian. I have read it twice and will be reading it again. The book looks into every area of George Mueller’s life and faith and gives us a boat load of practical practices to implement in our own lives. Below are some of the characteristics the George Mueller embodied that led to his spiritual success:

1. Missionary Spirit- He was willing to follow God wherever and whenever God led. Mr. Mueller was a pastor, opened orphan houses that provided homes for thousands of children, and he traveled in his later years as an evangelist. He never had a “stable” income, trusting God for provision.

2. Renunciation Of Self- He was always analyzing his spirit for any signs of the flesh coming through. He was diligent about putting his agenda aside and focusing on what God wanted him to do.

3. Taking Counsel Of God- Mr. Mueller always consulted God first. In every situation, when a decision needed to be made, when provisions were needed, George was on his knees in prayer, asking God to reveal His will.

4. Humble And Childlike Temper- George was a role model of humility. He never thought of himself first, always thinking of the other person. He was known for his patience, love, kindness and compassion.

5. Cutting Loose From Man- Mr. Mueller did not ask any man for financial or any other type of support. He went to God alone to provide what they needed. He trusted God to work in the hearts of those He chose to provide for the needs of the ministry.

6. Satisfaction In The Word- He knew that the Bible was the Word of God. He found peace in knowing that God provided His Word as a guide to daily living.

7. Thorough Bible Study- He knew the Word inside and out. He was a lifetime student of God’s Word. He not only studied the Word, but applied what he read to his life.

8. Freedom From Human Control- George did not allow himself to be controlled or manipulated by humans. He did not seek the approval of humans, only the approval of God.

9. Use Of Opportunity: Approaching Others As To Matters Of Salvation- George was always open to the leading of the Holy Spirit. He was always open to the opportunities to reach out to others with the Gospel of Jesus.

10. Knowledge Of The Second Coming- Mr. Mueller was aware that Jesus is going to return at some point. Every one of of his ministries was used to prepare the world for the second coming of Jesus.

11. Waiting On God For A Message- Mr. Mueller never acted of his own accord. He waited on God in all things. There were many times when God’s answer did not come until the very last minute. He never acted in disbelief. He always trusted God for an answer to his prayers.

12. Submission To The Authority Of The Word- God’s Word was the final authority in everything that Mr. Mueller did. He did not make any decisions without seeking God’s will through the Word. He would research the Bible inside and out until he found what God’s will was on a particular issue.

13. Surrender Of All Earthly Possessions- He did not consider anything he owned as his. It ALL belonged to God. If someone was in need of something that he had, he would give it freely.

14. Habit Of Secret Prayer- George spent hours on his knees in prayer. He prayed in isolation, using the time to focus on God and discern God’s will in daily matters.

15. Guarding Of His Testimony- George was very careful to make sure his reputation and testimony were not tarnished by sin. His daily goal was to live a righteous life as an example for others. He did not want anything that he did to become an obstacle in another person’s walk with God.

16. Organizing Of His Work- Mr. Mueller always maintained that the ministries he ran were not his, but God’s. If they ever ceased to glorify God, he would have closed them down immediately.

17. Sympathy With Orphans- Mr. Mueller had a God-given passion for orphans. I believe that this passion was extended to those who were “orphans” in their sin, as well as, children. God does not wish for any to be lost. George was a shepherd, in the truest definition of the word.

18. Allowing Himself To Be Molded By The Potter- He never stopped being a student of God’s. He was always seeking God’s guidance in matters of the heart. He was always seeking a revealing of any characteristics that were not Christ-like. Even in his later years, he still allowed God to mold his character.

19. Simple Living- George lived very simply. He only prayed for his basic needs to be met. If God blessed him with a surplus in resources, he would give the surplus away.

20. Giving Generously- He gave generously of any surplus resources he had. He believed in giving to those in need and did without himself, so that others would not have to suffer.

There is so much that we can learn from George Mueller. I really try to live these characteristics out in my daily life. It is an ongoing journey and I don’t always live up to the standard Mr. Mueller set.

I encourage you to read the book. It would be a great book for a group Bible- study. There is so much more wisdom and guidance from the life of George Mueller in the book. READ IT!!!

Where Are You?

adam and eve

Genesis 3:8-9

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

In Genesis 3, The serpent (Satan) deceived Eve into eating fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Eve knew that this is in disobedience to God, but believes the lie of Satan. She offers a piece of the fruit to Adam and he also eats the fruit. Adam and Eve immediately realized they were naked and sewed fig leaves to cover themselves.

When they heard the sound of God walking in the garden, they hid from Him. I can just imagine the shame they must have felt, for them to hide. The problem is, we can’t hide from God. It doesn’t matter how far we run, God sees ALL and knows ALL.

We can’t hide from God. We will feel a sense of shame and guilt until we come clean with God and repent from our sin. How can we make things right, when we have sinned against God?

1. Repent- Go to God and confess your sin. Open your heart and surrender it all, because He knows everything anyways.

2. Restore- If the sin involves other people, you need to go to that person or persons and make things right. Apologize and make restitution if necessary. God meant for us to live in community among others. Restoration of broken relationships is an important part of being who God wants us to be.

3. Renew- What can you do to keep from repeating the same sin? Make a plan and commit to renewing your life for God.

If you are hiding from God, I encourage you to run to Him and confess the sin. Our Abba Father is waiting patiently for you to open your heart to Him. He is waiting for you to make that first step in bringing restoration in your relationship with Him. He loves you and His compassions are new each morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). Do you hear Him calling? Where are you?

Day 7: My Reflections

Armor of God

As Christians, we are soldiers in a spiritual war. It is important for us to put on our spiritual armor every morning to prepare for the attacks of the enemy throughout our day. Satan is real and he will stop at nothing to separate us from our heavenly Father. This is his mission. Believe me, he doesn’t let the busyness of daily life keep him from carrying out his mission. He prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Don’t allow yourself to fall prey to the Devil. Stay alert and sober minded. Put on the Armor of God every morning as you dress:

1. The Belt of Truth- Jesus is our role model in living a Christ-centered life. Walk in the truth of Jesus.

2. The Breastplate of Righteousness- Do what is right in ALL things. Listen to the whisperings of the Holy Spirit. He is our conscience, sent by God to lead us in doing what is right. If we seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will know what is right.

3. The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace- Walk in peace, living in the peace that God brings into our lives, no matter what the circumstances. Walk out peace, taking peace to the world, so that others may have that peace that you have found. We are to be mediators in the world, bringing peace wherever we go.

4. The Shield of Faith- Protect your heart. Believe that God is real. Believe that God wants nothing but the best for you. He is everywhere, but we must choose to believe.

5. The Helmet of Salvation- Protect your mind. Jesus died to save us from eternal life in Hell. Don’t fall for the lies of the devil. Believe that Jesus died for the sins of the world.

6. The Sword of the Spirit- Dig into the Bible. Immerse yourself in God’s Word, so that you will be able to be victorious in the spiritual battles that we all face. Don’t let Satan win. Hide God’s Word in your heart. Be prepared!

This has been a wonderful journey for me. I have learned the importance in preparing daily for the spiritual battles that I face. We never know when Satan will strike, I want to be prepared. I invite you to walk with me as I make a habit of putting on my spiritual armor every morning as I dress. If you have any creative ways of doing this, I would love for you to share them with me.

If you need prayer, encouragement, spiritual support, contact me. I am here for you always! Remember my friend, that God loves you and so do I!

Armor of God

Ephesians 6:17 tells us that the sword of the spirit is the word of God.

Psalms 1:2-3

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields it’s fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

At the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, He was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit, where He was attacked by Satan. Jesus’ weapon against him was God’s Word – which is the “sword of the Spirit.” We will NEVER be able to win a spiritual battle without our greatest weapon- the Word of God.

In order to be victorious in any spiritual battle, we have to know God’s Word. We have to delight in our Bible study time. We have to meditate on the Word day and night. We have to be prepared with the “sword of the spirit,” so we may be victorious in our battle against Satan.

Below, I have listed 5 ways to meditate on God’s Word:

1. Hear God’s Word- We can hear God’s Word at church, on T.V., on the radio, on the internet, and at conferences. We need to keep our ears and hearts open to the voice of God and the whispers of the Holy Spirit.

2. Study The Bible- The main avenue for meditating on God’s Word is putting aside some time each day to study the Bible. You can read through the Bible in a year, pick one book each month to focus on, study a specific topic or a particular person in the Bible. Make your daily study time in bite size increments. The goal is not how fast you can read through the Bible, but how much you learn from the Bible. If you try to take in to much, you will soon be overwhelmed. Even a chapter a day is great, if you are really understanding and can apply what you learn.

3. Pray Scripture- Praying scripture is a wonderful way to allow the Word of God to penetrate the deep recesses of your heart. There are scriptures on every trial or issue we can face and every one of those scriptures can be turned into a prayer. Make it personal and pray God’s Word back to Him. If it comes from your heart, you can not go wrong.

4. Memorize Scripture- This is the hardest one for my 43 year old brain to get a grasp of. One idea that I found on the internet was buying small photo albums ($1.00 at Wal-Mart) and 4×6 index cards…write one scripture that encourages you or has some personal meaning to you on each card, decorate the cards if you want, make them colorful, place the cards in the albums and place in your car, purse, or in several different places. When you are waiting in the school line to pick up the kids, when you are waiting in the doctor’s office or anywhere else, you can take out your albums and memorize God’s Word. Brain-storm to find ways that work best for you. Let me know what you come up with!

5. Begin A Bible Study Journal- Get a composition book, spiral notebook, etc. to take notes in as you study the Bible each day. Write down anything that really speaks to you as you read. Ask the questions who, what, why, where, when, and how to give a better idea of what’s going on in the story. Write down verses that are commands from God that He wants us to obey. Write down ways to apply what you read in your daily lives. Open your heart to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

God gives us His Word as a weapon against the attacks of Satan. In order to fight Satan and have any chance of winning, we must arm ourselves with the “sword of the Spirit.” We must meditate on God’s Word and hide the Word in our hearts (Psalms 119:11).

I know how hard it is to get into the habit of studying the Bible. I realize that parts of the Bible can be boring. I am not an expert. I struggle with this, as much as the next person. If you need encouragement in this journey, if you want to share what you have read, if you have questions, contact me. I am here to help you in any way I can. I am always willing to research and find an answer for anyone who is seeking to understand the Word. God is waiting for you, my friend!

Armor of God

According to Dictionary.com, Salvation is:  1. the act of preserving or the state of being preserved from harm: 2. a person or thing that is the means of preserving from harm.

Romans 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

When a soldier goes into war, they wear a helmet to protect their head from injury. As a christian, we need to put on the helmet of salvation every morning to protect our minds from the lies of Satan. Satan is the great deceiver and wants nothing more than for you to believe that you are worthless, that you will never amount to anything, that no one loves you, that you are unimportant, that you are bad, and that you are hopeless. Satan plants these lies in our minds to keep us from believing in the mercy and love of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

The definition of salvation tells us that it is an act of preserving from harm. It is also, a person or thing that is the means of preserving from harm. Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death. What can be more harmful than death? Who is that person who preserves us from harm? What is that thing that keeps us from dying in our sin? Romans 6:23 tells us that the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Our salvation is Jesus. Jesus and only Jesus keeps us from dying in our sin. He is the ONLY one that can give us ETERNAL LIFE!

When you put on that helmet of salvation in the morning, you are putting on the identity of Christ. Not that we will EVER be Christ, but can become Christ-like in our daily lives. Satan lies, but Jesus is truth (John 8:32). When you dig into the Bible and the truth of Jesus starts to penetrate your mind, you will realize that you ARE worthy! You WILL amount to something! Jesus loves you! You ARE important to God! You are good! You are HOPEFUL! This is the truth of Jesus.

Put on the helmet of salvation. Know that Jesus loves you so much that He died for your sins. He loves you so much that He wants you to have eternal life with Him. Jesus loves you so much that He does not want you to die in your sin. He gave His life for you! He gave His life so that YOU may live. Jesus is our salvation. Believe in Him and you will have eternal life (John 3:16).

Put on the helmet of salvation. Know who you are in Christ. Let go of the lies of the enemy. You are AMAZING because JESUS says so!

If you are searching for the truth. If you are seeking a relationship with Jesus. If you have been torn down by the lies of Satan and you are ready to break free, contact me. I would love to get to know you and pray with you. Jesus loves you, my friend. I am here to help you in whatever way I can.

God loves you and so do I!

Armor of God

Hebrews 11:1

11 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Faith is believing in something that you can’t see. In my life, I have not seen the physical form of God (none of us could ever withstand the radiance of His presence), but I HAVE seen the manifestation of His presence in the natural wonders of this world, I HAVE seen the outpouring of His love through the obedience of His children, I HAVE seen His provision for those who choose to abide in Him. I have seen enough to know that He IS real and present in my life.

If we are tuned in, we can also, feel God through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God’s ambassador to this fallen world. I feel God’s presence through the gentle stirrings of the Holy Spirit. I feel comforted by reading the Bible, I feel peace when I pray, I feel encouraged by the whispers of the Holy Spirit, I feel convicted by conscience. It is all the Holy Spirit acting on God’s behalf. We can not see the Holy Spirit. We have to choose to believe. It is a choice. We will never be tuned in enough to feel God’s presence unless we make the decision to believe and to do what we need to do to grow in our relationship with Him. We need to be diligent about growing our faith. We can do this through prayer, Bible study, serving others, and taking up the shield of faith.

Medieval soldiers carried shields to protect their main organs: liver, kidneys, lungs, etc. Today I want to focus on the heart.

Ephesians 6:16

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

We need to take up the shield of faith every morning to protect our heart from the poison arrows and darts of our enemy, Satan. Satan will stop at nothing to get us to turn away from God. Our hearts are his target. Even we are physically disabled, we can still live joyful lives, as long as our hearts are still connected to God.

Satan will pierce our hearts with discouragement, fear, confusion, anger, jealousy, pride, envy, identity issues, hatred, unconfessed sin, and the list goes on. It doesn’t have to be this way. God has provided us with a way to deflect those deadly arrows. Faith in God will send Satan packing. If we hold on to our faith in God, no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in, the arrows of the evil one will not be able to hit their mark.

I have been dealing with comparison and jealousy lately. I have found myself jealous over the time my daughter’s in-laws spend with our granddaughter. I have found myself comparing their time with her to my time with her. I know that I have entered the danger zone and that Satan is gleefully waiting for me to sin. I will not sin, because I have taken up my shield of faith and I know that I can not allow this heart issue to cause me to sin. I have to dig into the Bible and dig out the root of this issue before it hardens my heart. I need to be in prayer and believe me I have been.

If your heart has been pierced by the poison arrows of Satan, contact me. Let me pray with you and walk with you through this time. You can get through this. My prayers are with you, my friend. God loves you and so do I!
